Please, guys HELP!

Post by Ahmad habash » Thu Apr 16, 2020 12:02 pm

I am a Syrian doctor who came here on a tier 4 visa for a full-time Msc course (January start). The plan was to finish the exams required to complete a GMC registration, and switch it to tear 2 while in the UK. However, due to the current events, all exams were postponed, thus I am loosing time on my visa without being able sit any exams.
I started my study in January; therefore i have my research project in second term rather than third. The university has moved the project to an online course work and told us that who ever is not satisfied with this option, can defer his study. However, the deferral will not be until next year, but till the next 2 years 2021- 2022 term three. Also they did not provide any details on visa situation during this time.
I still have two terms ahead to finish my study. please can someone tell me what are my best options to extend my stay? and would the new point based system benefit me?
Important information to consider:
-I graduate in January 2021 (if not deferred)
-Visa expires 20 May 2021 (seems a lot until you know that I have to three exams Oet-plab1-plab2 to complete
GMC registration.
-The master course I am doing is not a priority at all, and the deferral option seems legit if no visa problem

Your options depend on which of the university's two options for continuing your studies you prefer.

If you defer, your Tier 4 visa will be curtailed and you will need to leave the UK when that's possible to do. You can then apply for a new Tier 4 visa to return to the UK and resume your studies after the deferral.

If you continue with online studies instead, you can do that by Distance Learning either in the UK or elsewhere, and your Tier 4 visa will stay active.

In both cases, when you have completed your qualification and if you find a sponsored job you would be eligible to apply for a skilled worker visa under the proposed new system that will be in place from 1 January 2021.

Situation update:
We have just received a correction to the dean's letter. She meant April 2020/2021 not 2021/2022. This means that the project will be deferred until next April, just after the ending of the third term for January students (me included) which starts in next September.
As a result, and as a January entry student, I would only have Four months that need to be covered by the visa, and due to the flight restrictions as well as the current events, it is impossible to fly out for a new visa application.
Accordingly, can we update our visa status from inside the UK?

I strongly advise that you get individual guidance about your visa options from the international student adviser at your university. They will be much better informed about what's going on at your university than anyone here, and where this leaves students.

Ok, I will. but can you please tell me, would the new January 2021 regulation (skilled worker), increase my chances of getting the visa tier 2?

The fine detail has not been announced yet, but you can read the government's plan for it here:

I am a January entry student, and I graduate in January 2021. However my visa expires on the 18th of May 2021. Would I be eligible for the PSW (Post study work visa)?

The psw visa is only in place and available from the summer of 2021.

June/July but that isn't an indication of exactly when the actual visa will be available.
